Betsy Butler Endorses Proposition 41

Former AMVETS and Vietnam Veterans of America Legislator of the Year Supports Ballot Measure to House Homeless Veterans

LOS ANGELES - Former Assemblymember Betsy Butler announced that she has endorsed California Proposition 41 to provide affordable multifamily housing for our state¹s veterans. Proposition 41 was placed on the ballot by Assembly Bill 639 and is strongly supported by California veterans and their advocates. AB 639 enjoyed bi-partisan support in the legislature and was passed and signed by the governor in 2013.

“More veterans will return to California than any other state, ” said Butler. “That¹s why it is so vital that we ensure our veterans have access to all the benefits and opportunities they deserve upon returning to the United States. An alarming number of California¹s veterans return from the battlefield and have no housing options. This is unacceptable and it is incumbent upon us to remedy this injustice through the passage of Proposition 41. ”

California¹s largest and most impactful Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) also support Proposition 41 including: American Legion, Department of California; AMVETS, Department of California; California Association of County Veterans Service Officers; Military Officers Association of America, California Council of Chapters; Military Order of the Purple Heart, Department of California; Reserve Officers; Association, Department of the Golden West; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of California and the Vietnam Veterans of America, California State Council.

“Veterans welcome Ms. Butler¹s endorsement for this critically important measure which will help veterans. Betsy has always been a champion of veteran¹s causes and we worked closely together during her tenure in the State Assembly on Veterans Treatment Courts and veterans in the criminal justice system. These were complex issues which benefited from Betsy¹s tenacity and knowledge of the process. Her father was a career Air Force officer and she has always given her full support to meaningful initiatives which advance the cause of America¹s men and women who served this country, ” stated Pete Conaty, a retired U. S. Army Lt. Colonel and veterans advocate with Pete Conaty and Associates; a Governmental Advocacy firm in Sacramento which represents California¹s major Veterans Service Organizations.
