First Veterans Admitted To The
William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home Of California – Lancaster

The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is pleased to announce that the first two veterans will be admitted to the new William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California – Lancaster on February 1, 2010.

“In admitting our first veterans to the William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California – Lancaster, CalVet is continuing with its ongoing legacy and commitment to serve California’s veterans and their families,” said Roger Brautigan, CalVet Secretary. “Every Veterans Home of California is built as an expression of gratitude toward California’s veterans.”

Currently, CalVet operates five Veterans Homes of California located in Yountville (Napa County), Barstow (San Bernardino County), Chula Vista (San Diego County), Lancaster (Los Angeles County) and Ventura (Ventura County). One more veterans home is under construction in West Los Angeles, which should open later this year, and construction of veterans homes in Fresno and Redding will commence later this Spring.

CalVet’s mission is to promote and deliver the benefits provided by the grateful State of California to its deserving Veterans and their families – with a vision for California’s veterans to live the highest quality of life with dignity and honor. It is CalVet’s goal to provide the best long-term care and enhanced quality of life for all residents of California’s Veterans Homes. In order to be eligible for admission, an applicant must be age 62 or older (or younger if disabled), a resident of California and have served honorably in the military. Information regarding admission to the Veterans Homes of California is available online at www.cdva.ca.gov/Homes/Admissions.aspx.

"I'm extremely excited," said Lisa Grod, Veterans Home Administrator. “Residing in the Antelope Valley community this past year and knowing the Valley's commitment to getting the home built, I’m so happy it’s it's now a reality. My personal motto is ‘turning dreams into reality;’ and that's what we have here."

The William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California – Lancaster is located at 45221 30th Street West, Lancaster, CA 93536. For additional information, please call 661-974-7035.
