SUBJECT: HOMES ADMISSION CRITERIA

PURPOSE:
To state the criteria for admission to the California Veterans Homes.

POLICY:
It shall be the policy of the Department of Veterans Affairs that:

1. The criteria for admission to a California Veterans Home shall be consistent for all current and future homes.
2. Each home will have its own admission screening committee and admission appeals committee.
3. Applicants must be veterans as defined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA).
4. Applicants must be 62 years of age or if less than 62 years of age, have a disability that has been determined by the USDVA or by the Social Security Administration to be a disability that limits the applicant from gainful employment.
5. Applicants, veteran and non-veteran, must be participating in a federal, state or private health service plan if eligible at the time of admission.
6. Applicants must not have any disqualifying conditions for which the homes cannot provide appropriate health care.
