Little Hoover Commission - An Agenda For Veterans

The Following is a statement from CalVet Secretary Peter J. Gravett on the report released by the Little Hoover Commission titled “An Agenda for Veterans: The State’s Turn to Serve.”

“I read with great interest the report of the Little Hoover Commission and thank them for their efforts and recommendations.

“California has more veterans than any other state in the nation. As a result, the department has a greater responsibility to be the leading advocate for those men and women who have served this country honorably. As the report points out, the department now has a new strategic imperative to refocus its efforts on the needs of our state’s veterans and the continuum of services available to them. CalVet will continue to work with our partners at all levels of government, the Legislature, state agencies and departments, community-based organizations and the private sector to ensure that California veterans achieve the highest quality of life this state has to offer and the dignity and respect they deserve.”

“Ongoing partnerships have already resulted in several beneficial initiatives, including one that now allows our department access to the Defense Personnel Records Information System and another that has resulted in CalVet being chosen by the USDVA as a pilot state for its new D2D (Digital to Digital) program that will allow us to file benefit claims electronically.”
