Governor Brown Announces Appointments To the California Veterans Board

Hugh E. Crooks Jr., of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Crooks was an operations manager at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Human Resource Division from 2000 to 2005 and at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum from 1994 to 2000. He held multiple positions at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County from 1971 to 2000, including operations manager and safety police chief. Crooks was booking clerk at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department from 1969 to 1971 and served as a rifleman in the U. S. Army from 1967 to 1969. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was state commander of the American Legion from 2011 to 2012.

Anthony Gilliland, of Temecula, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Gilliland has been a senior vice president at Wells Fargo Advisors since 2008 and a vice president at Morgan Stanley of Temecula since 2004. He was director of operations at the Channel Commercial Corporation from 1999 to 2004 and production manager at Ford Motor Company from 1997 to 1999. Gilliland served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1977 to 1997. He is a member of AMVETS.

Caroline Christina Morales, of Yucaipa, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Morales has been commander of the California Army National Guard 40th Brigade Support Battalion since 2013 and has been pro bono counsel at the Children’s Attorney Project since 2004. She served in multiple positions with the California National Guard from 1999 to 2013, including battalion executive officer of the 224 Special Troops Battalion from 2011 to 2013, rear detachment commander in the 224th Sustainment Brigade from 2009 to 2011, commander of the 1498th Transportation Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom VIII from 2007 to 2009 and support operations officer in the 40th Brigade Support Battalion from 2006 to 2007. She served in multiple positions with the California National Guard 540th Main Support Battalion from 1999 to 2006, including support operations officer from 2005 to 2006, operations and training officer from 2003 to 2005, commander of headquarters and headquarters company from 2001 to 2003 and platoon leader of D. Company from 1999 to 2001. Morales served in multiple positions in the U. S. Army and U. S. Army Reserve from 1991 to 1999, including administrative specialist, civil affairs specialist and mobile subscriber equipment operator. Morales is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Morales earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Southwestern Law School.

Sean Sargeant, of Murrieta, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Sargeant has been deputy probation officer at the Orange County Probation Department since 1997 and has served as master sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corp since 2010, where he has served in multiple positions since 1988, including gunnery sergeant and staff sergeant. Sargeant is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Gena Truitt, of Temecula, has been appointed to the California Veterans Board. Truitt has been case manager at U. S. VETS since 2013. She was veterans advocate at Interfaith Community Services from 2012 to 2013, family support partner at Mental Health Systems, Courage to Call in 2012 and assistant and intern in U. S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s San Diego District Office from 2011 to 2012. Truitt served in the U. S. Navy from 2000 to 2004. She earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California.
