Military and veterans clients: As you may have heard, newly elected Assemblywoman Mary Salas from San Diego (79th AD-Chula Vista), was recently appointed to chair the Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee.

The 79th Assembly District is home to the following U.S. Navy Installations:
-Naval Air Station North Island
-Naval Computer and Telecom Station San Diego
-Naval Station San Diego (32nd Street)
-Naval Base San Diego
-Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center

Assemblywoman Salas' family also has a history of military service to this country. Her father, Joe Salas, was a WWII veteran who later worked as a civilian on North Island. Her uncle, Joseph Casillas, was also a WWII veteran who received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart while fighting in Germany (78th Division). He also briefly became a prisoner of the Germans. He was the first member of the family to go to college, which he did with the assistance of the GI Bill.
