Assemblywoman Salas' family also has a history of military service to this country. Her father, Joe Salas, was a WWII veteran who later worked as a civilian on North Island. Her uncle, Joseph Casillas, was also a WWII veteran who received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart while fighting in Germany (78th Division).
