BACKGROUND: In November 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 1455 – the Gold Star Family License Plate Bill authored by Senator Dave Cogdill of Modesto. This bill authorizes a uniquely designed special license plate for families whose loved one is killed while serving on active duty in the military. The start-up costs for this license plate however - estimated to be approximately $300,000 - must not impact the state’s general fund and, therefore, must be raised from private sources.

To date, we have received only $16,611 in donations. CalVet invites everyone to participate in the Joey Graves Memorial Golf Tournament as a way of donating to this most worthy and important cause. All donations are welcome and will propel us to our goal of $300,000. Your donations are tax deductible. Those wishing to donate directly to Project: Gold Star can download the form on our website at http://www.calvet.ca.gov. If you prefer, you can call 916-653-2192 and we will mail one to you.
