Receives CalVet Deputy Secretary’s Award for Excellence

During last night’s banquet of the California County Veterans Service Officers (CVSO) Conference in Sacramento, Chuck Bikakis, County Veterans Service Officer for Kern County, received the CVSO of the Year award from the hands of Roger Brautigan, Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet). Also recognized during last night’s ceremony was Cheryl Cook, Veterans Representative, San Francisco County Veterans Service Office, who received the CalVet Deputy Secretary’s Award for Excellence.

“The California Department of Veterans Affairs is proud of the accomplishments and growth achieved by Chuck’s department since becoming the Kern County CVSO; however nothing is more important than advocating for veterans while reminding the community of the achievements of this select group of citizens,” stated Brautigan. “I am proud of having selected and presented Chuck with the CVSO of the Year award for 2010.”

“Cheryl has an outstanding work ethic and has brought the San Francisco County Veterans Service Office to be one of top producing offices in California,” said Ted Puntillo, CalVet Deputy Secretary for Veterans Services. “It is with a great deal of pleasure that I award her the Deputy Secretary’s Award for Excellence.”
The CVSO of the Year Award is presented to a County Veterans Service Officer who has demonstrated tenacity, commitment to veterans and excelled at providing the highest level of service to the veterans in his or her county. The CalVet Deputy Secretary’s Award for Excellence is presented to an individual who works for a CVSO and exemplifies the highest level of excellence in their commitment and selfless service to our nation’s heroes.
