Bach Ma Franco-Vietnamese Project
Hello,
I am a student at the University of La Rochelle, France. As part of my studies, I am tasked with writing a thesis in collaboration with a French-Vietnamese project responsible for enhancing the cultural and natural heritage of Bach Ma National Park, Vietnam.
With the support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will develop interpretive centers (museums) in the park to tell its history. We also plan to publish a book. The themes include wildlife, flora, and remnants of a French colonial village and of the base of U.S. helicopters that had been built during the Vietnam War.
In this framework, we look for testimony of American soldiers who lived in the park during this period, as well as photographs (or movies) in high definition that could be used for the museum and the book. We welcome any information to help us document the site (construction of the base, its organization and its military defenses, the types of helicopters, the supplies, the equipment, the personnel and the units on the site, the operations, the Vietnamese forces in presence, etc.) and the life of soldiers during this period (biographies, leisure activities, impressions of the surrounding forest, relationships with people, etc.).
Any other document, such as a map of the base, would be very useful.
I believe you may be aware of photographs of Bach Ma during this period. If so, could you please give me the contact information to possibly obtain reproductions?
This is a non-profit project to present Bach Ma to Vietnamese and foreign audiences (particularly American and French) , to keep track of events that occurred in the national park during the twentieth century and to honor the memory of the men who stayed in it in tribute to their bravery.
May I ask you if you are willing to collaborate with our project by providing your testimony, lending us photographs, giving us advice and helping us identify other witnesses?
Obviously, we will send you written instructions for validation. If we publish a book with your testimony and possibly some of your photos, we will be glad to send you free copies.
