Basketball Hall of Famer Pat Williams To Deliver Keynote Speech at Vietnam Veterans of Americas National Leadership & Education Conference
(Washington, D.C.)Pat Williams, the co-founder and senior vice president of the NBAs Orlando Magic, will give the Keynote Speech at the Opening Ceremonies of Vietnam Veterans of Americas National Leadership & Education Conference on Wednesday morning, August 6, at the Hyatt Regency in Wichita, Kansas.
Pat Williams has been a general manager with three NBA teams, and he led the Philadelphia 76ers to NBA Championship, VVA National Present John Rowan said. Not only that, but Pats one of the worlds best motivational speakers, and I, for one, am really looking forward to what he has to say to our organizations leading advocates as we kick off the conference in Wichita.
The biennial Leadership & Education Conference will bring together some 350 VVA leaders from across the country. They will take part in four-and-a-half days of activities, including a wide selection of seminars. The subjects range from the elements of leadership--parliamentary procedures, the duties of the officers and board of directors, the management of chapters and state councils, and media outreach--to updates on veterans healthcare, successful membership recruitment and retention tools, and effective grassroots advocacy. VVAs supporting organization, the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA), is co-sponsoring the conference.
Among the special guests at the Conference will be the 2014 recipients of the VVA Excellence in the Arts Awards, which will be presented at the Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, August 9: Vietnam veterans Tucker Smallwood, the award-winning character actor; Kimo Williams, the musician and composer; and Jim Northrup, the poet, novelist, storyteller, and columnist; along with Terrie Frankel, the musician and writer who entertained the troops on a USO tour of Vietnam in 1968.
