PROCLAMATION
09/19/2007
September 21, 2007, as “POW/MIA Recognition Day”
PROCLAMATION
by the Governor of the State of California
Our freedom comes at a very high price. In addition to the many courageous troops who made the ultimate sacrifice defending America’s liberty, thousands of our country’s service members have also been captured by our enemies or are unaccounted for. In gratitude for their noble service, California officially recognizes the third Friday in September as POW/MIA Recognition Day.
Today, we pay special tribute to our past and present Prisoners of War and those listed as Missing in Action, and we renew our promise to find those who are still unaccounted for and bring them home. And as we remember and honor these valiant members of our military, we also salute their courageous families, who suffer the pain of ongoing uncertainty over the welfare of their loved ones. Our brave troops and their families are heroes who have ensured that America remains the land of the free, and we express to them our eternal indebtedness for their tremendous sacrifices.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim September 21, 2007, as “POW/MIA Recognition Day.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 19th day of September 2007.
