Dear Veteran,

May I impose upon you to help me carry the following request for help to the Chapter Leadership and my fellow members?

I need to ask if, individually, the VVA and VFW can support Green Hills Memorial Park in a matter before the RPV City Planning Commission. We built a mausoleum on our northern property line that was 100% approved by the City.

However, after its completion, some residents in the City of Lomita have complained about having to see funerals across from their balconies. In particular, they are opposed to the 21-gun salute military honors for Veterans.

They claim we are disrespectful to them 'by firing off guns' and just last week some neighbors disrupted a salute at a Veteran's funeral. The Planning Commission was going to ban such salutes in our Park until we informed them of the law passed by Congress. So, they are countering with a proposed moratorium which will ban us from selling the spaces and conducting any funerals in that location. Would you believe one of the Commissioners claims to be a Vietnam Vet but seems to support these view and actions? There is also a possibility that they could strictly enforce noise restrictions which would not prohibit gun salutes per se but would require us to somehow reduce the decibels before they could take place. Can any of you imagine a 21 Gun Salute using suppressors? Our biggest fear is that neighbors and the Commissions could carry these attitudes to every area of the Park and put dampers on our events like Memorial Day.

I would ask the leadership of the VVA and VFW to spread the word and ask the guys to come to the hearing in numbers, on

TUESDAY, August 12 at 7:00 p. m. to show support by their presence only.
It will be at: 29301 Hawthorne Blvd, RPV, at the Fred Hesse Park Community Center.
The Park is on the right about 4 miles south (going uphill) off Pacific Coast Hwy

We need a showing that will help overshadow these irrational and self-serving neighbors. Usually two dozen of them show up.

Additionally, I would ask each Organization for a letter of support from the VVA and VFW about how Green Hills has supported each and played a role in honoring Veterans.
