Veterans Housing Program Stakeholder Meeting

Notice of New Date Added and One Date Changed

To: All Interested Parties

Subject: Veterans Housing and Homeless Prevention Program Design and Implementation

Proposition 41 which authorized the issuance of $600 million in General Obligation Bonds to fund the acquisition, construction and rehabilitation of affordable multifamily supportive housing, affordable transitional housing, affordable rental housing, or related homeless and low‐income veterans and their families was overwhelmingly approved by voters on June 3rd.

With its passage, funding to implement the Veterans Housing and Homeless Prevention (VHHP) Program is in place and CalVet, working collaboratively with CalHFA and HCD, is in the process of designing, developing, and administering the VHHP Program pursuant to AB 639 (Chapter 727, Statutes of 2013, Pérez) to provide critical resources to begin helping homeless veterans in California. HCD, CalHFA and CalVet issued a joint press release June 11th detailing the next steps in the design and implementation of the Program.

An initial round of stakeholder meetings (see below) have been scheduled across the state during the month of July to present the Program framework and proposed policies, gather input on targeting services and identifying where the demand is greatest for the VHPP Program. Individuals interested in attending a stakeholder meeting in their area can register for the event through the Department’s website at http://www.hcd.ca.gov/fa/vets/. Additional stakeholder meetings in additional locations will be scheduled later in the summer on the draft program guidelines.

This program administered by the California Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Housing and Community Development and the California Housing Finance Agency is dedicated to the preservation and expansion of safe and affordable housing so more California Veterans and their families have a place to call home. The team works to ensure an adequate supply of housing options are available for our veterans and promotes the growth of strong communities.
