CDVA RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD

From The Desk Of Secretary Tom Johnson

To the CDVA Team:

I just returned from the 2007 State Agency Recognition Awards (SARA) ceremony held over at the Department of General Services headquarters.  SARA honors State Departments for outstanding achievements in advocating for, and contracting with, Small Business and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises.

Congratulations to CDVA!  We received the Governor's Award as the State Agency that best exemplified the spirit of the Governor's executive order and state law to improve our Small Business and Disabled Veterans Business Enterprise (DVBE) contracting participation.  The Governor's Executive Order S-02-06 established a goal of 25% of State contracts for Small Businesses, and State law has established a goal of 3% for Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises.

With your help, we achieved our DVBE goal and showed great improvement in our Small Business percentage.

Also, Arlynn Chen, our Small Business and DVBE Advocate, received the Silver Award as Advocate of the Year for all State agencies.  Way to go Arlynn! As Arlynn will say, and as we all know, it takes a team to get the job done.

The award the Department received is not an ending point, but a springboard to do even better next year.  And, everyone on the CDVA team will have to play a part so we can continue to improve.

Again, congratulations to all of the CDVA Team for this very significant award!

Tom Johnson, Secretary
