PUBLIC WORKS BOARD APPROVES REVISED PROJECT AND SCOPE FOR THE VETERANS HOMES OF CALIFORNIA IN REDDING AND FRESNO
Today, the California Public Works Board (PWB) approved a consent item at their regularly scheduled meeting to reestablish the scope and cost for the Fresno and Redding Veterans Homes.
“The action taken today by the Public Works Board was very important and very much appreciated,” said Tom Johnson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs. “This will allow the projects to go forward to bring these much-needed homes to Redding and Fresno.”
Following the PWB action, a new Advertisement for Statement of Qualifications for each of the two projects was posted on the Department of General Services website, as follows: (click “Agency,” and go to Department of General Services.)

The revised project for the Fresno Home will consist of a 239,000 gross square foot residential care facility of 300 beds on approximately 26.22 acres of state-owned land on California Street in Fresno. The project cost is now estimated to be $164,491,000.
The revised project for the Redding Home will consist of a 127,000 gross square foot residential care facility of 150 beds on approximately 26 acres of state-owned land on Knighton Road in Redding. The project cost is now estimated to be $94,642,000.
These veterans homes will provide various levels of care for California veterans, including skilled nursing (SNF), residential care for the elderly (RCFE) and memory care (MC).
The State Public Works Board was created by the Legislature to oversee the fiscal matters associated with construction of projects for state agencies, and to select and acquire real property for state facilities and programs. Voting members include the Director of Finance, the Director of Transportation, and the Director of General Services. When the Board deals with matters related to the issuance of revenue bonds, the State Controller and the State Treasurer are added as members.
