Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Madera Soldier
Governor Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the death of Sgt. Raul Moncada of Madera:
“Maria and I were saddened to learn of the passing of Sergeant Raul Moncada, a dedicated soldier who served our country with pride and honor. His commitment to freedom, his fellow soldiers and the defense of the United States will never be forgotten. We join all Californians in sending our condolences to Raul’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Moncada, 29, died April 13 near Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Moncada was assigned to the 563rd Military Police Company, 91st Military Police Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), U.S. Army, Fort Drum, NY.
In honor of Sgt. Moncada, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
